Trend Watch From High Point: YesterdayObelisk Home
This month is all about celebrating the past and creating a better future by mixing classic design elements with today’s modern lifestyle. Here at Obelisk, we have chosen some of our favorite new items from this month’s Yesterday theme and built a trend board based on what we saw at High Point Market last week.
Black and white motifs where a major trend that we noticed at market. This can be a tricky look to pull off because it can often appear as cold and sterile. However, using it as a base to build the rest of the room off is perfect because it gives you nearly endless options to mix whatever you’d like with it. At the CR Laine showroom we loved the geomtric black and white rug paired with chairs upholstered in a soft yellow. This warmed up the otherwise harsh rug. The black and white theme was carried on by our friends at Global Views as well. They used red and rich gold tones to contrast the black and white. This motif can be hard to commit to – we recommend starting off by dipping your toes in the water slowly by bringing in throw pillows with a black and white pattern.
Nearly every showroom we visited at market used black and white prints as art. The subjects of these prints were always Hollywood stars from the past, such as Elvis and Marlon Brando. These nostalgic images can be presented in a way that makes them relevant and even sexy today.
We also couldn’t help but notice the amount of showrooms taking classic silhouettes and re-imagining them in different materials or finishes. We love the idea of taking a lamp in the old fashioned shape of an urn and updating it by making it out of crystal. Or taking a bust and turning it into a lamp!
These are the type of things that this month’s them “yesterday” is all about. Enjoy!
