Company Culture What We Hoard

Obelisk Home is in itself a “collection of characters.” We like it that way. Diversity, miscellany and originality is baked into the DNA of our company.We are thrilled to share our staff’s most fun, fascinating and personal collections, as we dedicate this month to one of our favorite obsessions—Collections.

We are nothing if not passionate about our passions at Obelisk Home.

Callie

I started collecting Jadeite when I had my first apartment in college. I fell in love with the color and now it fills my kitchen cabinets.

Colby

I love art, sculpture in particular, and busts have always caught my eye. Maybe it’s because I enjoy portrait photography. Someday I hope to amass enough to fill an entire room, like a museum.

Nathan

Boxes tell so many different stories. I've collected them from my travels for years. Different countries, different designs, different centuries.

Nicole

My collecting china was fully unintentional, as my first pieces were acquired from one of my favorite stores closing and selling off their samples. It was called Magnolia’s in Birmingham Michigan. The only way to describe the owner of that store and her taste was lovely. That is what I think of when I add to my collection. Would Missy think this is lovely?

I have been a “collector” since I was a kid; matchbooks, scout patches, yard sticks,etc. As I got older, my interest in art grew and I started obsessing over it. I started collecting in my 20’s but became much more serious about it when Nathan and I started traveling together in 2000. Now we have more stuff than we have walls to display but the temptation for more has not diminished.

Vinyl also forces the audience to listen to the whole album, allowing you to discover tracks you may have not heard before.

From Swaziland to South Korea to the Cayman Islands, my husband's and my collection of masks represents our love of travel.

Chris

My birdhouse collection grows each year as I select a unique piece to add to my home. Auctions generously hosted by Obelisk Home and others throughout our community have allowed me to express my love for local artists’ creativity while simultaneously contributing to deserving charitable organizations.
